Yesterday Gerald Jones, MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, met with Richard Ratcliffe, husband of jailed British-Iranian citizen Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, at the Iranian Embassy in London.
In protest, and in a campaign to secure her release from prison in Iran and return to the UK, both Richard and Nazanin Ratcliffe are currently on hunger strike, and Gerald Jones met with Richard Ratcliffe to support the freedom campaign and show solidarity.
Along with many other Labour MPs yesterday, including the Leader of the Opposition, Gerald Jones wore a ‘Free Nazanin’ badge to show support for the campaign.
Gerald Jones said: “Today I went to express my support and solidarity to Richard Ratcliffe, and pass on my constituents’ messages of support for him and for Nazanin.
It was truly heartwarming to see the support Richard has from his family and friends, but also from total strangers, in his campaign against the injustice of the imprisonment of Nazanin.”
