JOINT STATEMENT FROM GERALD JONES MP AND DAWN BOWDEN AM

In light of the statement issued last week by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and Welsh Government, we have written to the Minister for Housing and Local Government to seek more information about the reasons for their intervention in the Council and what specific measures will be put in place to resolve the current situation.

The recent findings by the Wales Audit Office are a matter of significant concern. Such warnings are not issued lightly.  We therefore expect the Council to acknowledge and recognise the seriousness of their situation and to work collaboratively with Welsh Government to resolve the problems.

As the MP and AM, our overriding priority is to be satisfied that the people of Merthyr Tydfil continue to receive safe and sustainable services.

We give our assurances that we will work with the Council and Welsh Government to help secure the services our constituents deserve.
