Gerald Jones MP has backed the mental health campaigner Hope Virgo’s Dump the Scales campaign, which aims to ensure that nobody is turned away from treatment for eating disorders purely because of their weight.

The campaign is calling for a change in healthcare and public understanding of eating disorders, and for people to focus on the mental health of a person rather than on their weight.

Hope Virgo, founder of the Dump the Scales campaign, said: “I am so excited that we have cross-party support coming forward to raise awareness of eating disorders. People with eating disorders are getting an unfair deal in society.”

Gerald said: “I am supporting Hope Virgo’s campaign to Dump the Scales, because eating disorders are not just about weight. Many people suffering from eating disorders are misdiagnosed because they are told by GPs that they are not underweight or overweight enough; we can help change this by signing and sharing Hope’s petition now.”
