Today we have met with company representatives and spoken to some of the workforce at Kasai, Pentrebach, in our constituency.

Clearly the announcement by Honda to close their Swindon plant has created much concern in this factory, as in many others across the South Wales valleys.

We have listened very carefully to the concerns about the potential impacts of the loss of Honda’s business, the value of work undertaken in the supply chain of motor manufacturing, as well as the general uncertainty that surrounds much of the UK economy at this time.

The company has provided valuable and stable employment for nearly thirty years.  Many staff on this site have received their rewards for 25 years of service.  We will fight to retain this type of work in our constituency.

We are therefore determined to keep our focus on providing the practical support the company will need to overcome the challenges which now lie ahead.  Our conversations with the company will continue and we will build on today’s visit to help our discussion with both UK and Welsh Government Ministers.
