A better future with our membership of the European Union

Yesterday Alan Johnson and the ‘Labour In’ campaign released this video showing why he is supporting the campaign to remain a part of the EU. As a supporter of the UK’s membership of the EU I wanted to share it.

I am proud to support Labour’s campaign to remain a part of the European Union. I believe that being a part of Europe makes us stronger, and Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney have received huge benefits by remaining part of the EU including:

The EU isn’t perfect, and Labour has a proud tradition in Europe of campaigning for reforms that ensure that we build a stronger and fairer society. going it alone could mean that we miss out 790,000 more jobs by 2030 and access to new markets in Europe for British businesses- like digital services, energy and tourism. It’s simply not worth the risk.

We also have to thank the EU for being a major reason behind the most prolonged period of peace in Western Europe. The EU’s role in creating the ‘Pax Europea’ has meant that member states have been at peace since 1945, something that was recognized by awarding the EU The Noble Peace prize in 2012.

I believe that through Europe we can build a peaceful common future, one where everyone from all backgrounds can succeed. I hope you will join me in making the positive case to for the UK remain in the EU.
