Gerald is supporting Cyfarthfa Park for the UK's Best Park award

Gerald Jones, MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, is urging people to vote for Cyfarthfa Park in Merthyr Tydfil for the Fields in Trust UK’s 2019 Best Park award.

Cyfarthfa Park is one of 364 parks and green spaces across the UK nominated for the award, and Gerald has supported the park and called for people to give it their vote before the deadline on Monday 19 August.

Fields in Trust, which will announce the winner of the award in September, is an independent charity with over 90 years’ experience in protecting parks across the UK. It protects 288 parks and green spaces in Wales for future generations to enjoy, totalling over 1,100 hectares of land.

Voting for UK Best Park 2019 runs until 12pm on Monday 19 August. The top park in each of Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be shortlisted, with the overall winner and UK’s Best Park 2019 announced at the conclusion of Fields in Trust’s Summer of Parks in mid-September.

Gerald Jones said: “Voting for the UK’s Best Park 2019 is now underway, and closes on Monday 19 August. I want to encourage everyone who knows what a brilliant and iconic local landmark Cyfarthfa Park is to get voting now.

“It’s the jewel in the crown for Merthyr Tydfil, as we know, and so many of us have enjoyed many hours in the park and castle grounds. Get voting now, and show your support for Cyfarthfa Park!”
