It’s been established on Rhymney high street for many years now, and recently the Rhymney based charity Helping Hands was pleased to welcome local MP, Gerald Jones to meet volunteers committed to helping people diagnosed with cancer in the community.

Helping hands was set up in 1994 as a fundraising group to help Cancer Sufferers in Rhymney through some of the difficulties of their illness and treatment. 22 years later they have expanded across the Upper Rhymney Valley and own two premises on Rhymney high street which work as both a drop in centre for local Cancer patients and also as charity shops reselling treasures and using the proceeds to help support local patients and their family.

Gerald was pleased to visit the charity to meet some of the volunteers and thank them for making a big contribution to the local community;

“They’re just a fantastic group of people doing a sterling job. You can’t put a price on the work they do to make the lives of Cancer patients easier.

“I posted a picture of my visit on my Facebook page and was inundated with people liking and commenting on the issue. I think that just shows how much the community value the work they do and the difference their work makes people affected by Cancer.

Although I’ve visited many times before, I was pleased to meet some of the hardworking local volunteers, who do such a good job in keeping this charity at the heart of the community. I hope that local residents will continue to support the Charity shop and in doing so support local Cancer patients.”
