Gerald Jones, MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, has been appointed Shadow Minister for Wales in the Labour Party’s Frontbench team by new leader Keir Starmer.

Gerald had previously served as Shadow Wales Minister between 2016 and 2017, and had also served as a Shadow Defence Minister since 2017, working with Nia Griffith MP as Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, who he now joins again in the shadow Wales team as the new Shadow Secretary of State for Wales.

Gerald will first represent the Party in his new role in Parliament on Wednesday, 22nd April in Welsh Questions.

Commenting, Gerald said:

“I am delighted to be taking on the role of Shadow Wales Minister, supporting the new Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Nia Griffith MP in the new Labour Frontbench under the leadership of Keir Starmer.

 

“I will do everything I can to stand up for the people of Wales and hold the UK Government to account at this difficult time, as our country battles the coronavirus pandemic.”
