Gerald Jones, MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, has pledged his support for this year’s Great British Spring Clean, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

The campaign, which runs from March 20th to April 13th, will see up to 600,000 people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across Wales and the UK.

The Great British Spring Clean, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to show they love where they live, and in 2019 more than half a million ‘Litter Heroes’ collected more than 900,000 bags of rubbish.

Commenting, Gerald said:

“Keep Britain Tidy’s research shows that people are more likely to litter where litter is already present.

“Small actions can make a big difference – that’s why I want to encourage as many people in Merthyr Tydfil and the Upper Rhymney Valley as possible to take part in this year’s Great British Spring Clean and help clean our streets, parks and beaches.”

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said:

“Litter is an issue that affects every corner of the country and, regardless of politics, the Great British Spring Clean is a campaign everyone can get behind.

“It is fantastic to have the support of Gerald Jones MP to help us reach our target of getting 600,000 people out, taking action to clean up every corner of the country.”
