The annual Countryside Alliance Awards are now open to public nomination, and Gerald Jones, MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, is urging the local community to get nominating.

Nicknamed the ‘Rural Oscars’, the Countryside Alliance Awards were formed to support and promote rural communities – they celebrate people going the extra mile to ensure that food and farming, small businesses, enterprises and people, can flourish.

Gerald Jones MP commented:

“These awards are an excellent way to promote the local businessmen and women who are working hard to keep Britain thriving. Our local produce is second to none, and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of recognition in the Countryside Alliance Awards, so get involved and nominate today!

“Let’s see if we can bring a title home and tell a positive story about Merthyr Tydfil and the Upper Rhymney Valley.”

The awards run across the following categories:

  1. Local Food Award
  2. Village Shop/Post Office Award
  3. Rural Enterprise Award
  4. Butcher Award
  5. Rural Pub Award
  6. Game Champion
  7. Clarissa Dickson Wright Award
