Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney MP thanks the Peoples Kitchen

Gerald recently visited the People’s Kitchen at High Street Baptist Church to thank the volunteers who support the project for their commitment.

The People’s Kitchen operates every Sunday evening at Merthyr’s High Street Baptist Church and provides a hot meal and support for people who are homeless or vulnerable.

After meeting the volunteers, Gerald said,

It was an absolute privilege to meet the group of volunteers who through their time and commitment week in week out provide much needed support to people who are homeless or going through a vulnerable period of their lives.”

Val Williams who helps to co-ordinate the project said,

“We were so pleased that Gerald came and spoke to volunteers as well as some of those who use the service. We’ve seen demand skyrocket in the last few years with the changes to benefits and UK government policy like the Bedroom tax hitting people hard. As a result we’ve had to increase our output dramatically.

It’s really reassuring to have an MP that is a strong supporter of ours. Gerald has already been back since the visit to check how things are going, and I know that he helped out before he was elected. It just bolsters us a bit more knowing that Gerald supported us before he became an MP and now he’s supporting us in Westminster”.

The project is supported through fundraising and donations and is always looking for extra volunteers as well as donations.

If anyone wishes to donate non perishable food, clothing or toiletries, call along to the Baptist Church, High Street, Merthyr Tydfil on Sundays between 6pm and 7.30pm or alternatively you can leave a message on High Street Church Merthyr Tydfil’s facebook page.
