End of the firebreak
On Monday (9th November) the recent period of a firebreak comes to an end. We do not yet know if the firebreak has been successful in turning back the spread of the virus in our constituency. The impact may become clearer in the next 7-10 days.
Situation remains alarming
Sadly, the rate of positive tests in Merthyr Tydfil, and the pressure on our local hospitals, remains alarming and this will require a further response by Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board and the Welsh Government.

Further action required
Our joint view is that the current position regarding Covid-19 in Merthyr Tydfil remains alarming enough as to require further action.
We believe that we need an even clearer view on the extent of the virus in the local population. The testing regime needs to increase further. We must keep working to improve test, trace and protect. Please cooperate with this vital service and, crucially, self-isolate if necessary.
We must still try to ensure that our behaviour helps to reduce the spread of the virus and save lives.
We are currently discussing the situation with Welsh Government Ministers, Public health and local authority representatives.
