- MP and AM tour facility and meet senior leadership for presentation on company’s Merthyr Tydfil operations – over 250 people currently employed at Pentrebach facility
- Visit is part of MP and AM’s joint project looking at how to improve local economy and jobs in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney
Today (2 August) Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney’s MP Gerald Jones and AM Dawn Bowden, visited General Dynamics Land Systems-UK in Merthyr Tydfil, as part of their joint project looking at how to improve the local economy and jobs.
During their visit Gerald and Dawn had a presentation on General Dynamics Land Systems-UK’s Merthyr Tydfil site’s operations and growth, as well as the company’s initiatives in recruitment and STEM in the local area. They were also briefed on the positive local recruitment trend, with an increasing number of people employed at the Merthyr Tydfil site.
Following the presentation Gerald and Dawn also had a guided tour of the company’s facility, seeing at first-hand the innovative technologies and capabilities the company is currently working on.
Speaking after the visit, Gerald Jones MP said:
“I was very pleased to be able to visit General Dynamics Land Systems-UK in Merthyr Tydfil again today with Dawn, and see the amazing work they are doing at the forefront of our defence industry.
“It is brilliant to have these highly-skilled jobs here in Merthyr Tydfil, and to see the opportunities available for future growth and recruitment. Dawn and I will do whatever we can to encourage future growth here that benefits our area, as part of our project on how to improve our local economy and jobs.”
Dawn Bowden AM added:
“It is great to see the production line now in action and a growth in the workforce.
