Well over 100 people attended the Rhymney jobs fair on Friday, 5 April, opened by Mayor of Caerphilly Mike Adams, with over 30 key local employers, organisations and training providers represented with stands at the event.

EE, General Dynamics, Transport for Wales, BPI Recycling and Careers Wales were among the organisations attending as people had access to a wide range of support with finding employment or training opportunities.

Both General Dynamics and BPI Recycling are also currently hiring for new roles, and attendees were able to apply for vacancies on the day.

Gerald Jones, the MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney who hosted the job fair with Dawn Bowden AM and Jobcentre Plus, said: “I’m delighted with the interest we’ve had in the event today – there’s been a real buzz around the venue and we’ve had over 120 people through the doors.

“I also want to thank all the local employers, organisations and training providers for attending today – it’s great to see such a range of support and opportunities available to local people.”

Dawn Bowden AM said: “This is the third year that Gerald and I have hosted the jobs fair, and this year we want to use it as a springboard for a wider project, talking to anyone and everyone involved with developing skills, jobs and our local economy to see how we can improve opportunities for people across the constituency.”

Steve Roberts, from the Department for Work and Pensions at Jobcentre Plus, added: “The event proved a success, with approximately 125 members of the public passing through the doors. Advice and guidance was given on apprenticeships, vacancies, traineeships and more.

“The feedback from all involved was entirely positive on how productive the day had been.”
