Gerald Jones MP has joined Smart Energy GB, the voice of the smart meter rollout, to learn more about the benefits smart meters are bringing to the 8,991 households in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney who have one installed.
After finding out about how smart meters can help manage home energy bills more effectively and reduce energy waste, Gerald Jones MP is encouraging his constituents to contact their energy supplier to get a smart meter at no extra cost.
Commenting on smart meters and the national rollout, Gerald Jones MP said:
“It was great to hear that 8,991 households in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney are already benefitting from smart meters, and after hearing about how they can help you take control of what you spend on gas and electricity, I want to encourage everyone to contact their energy supplier and get a smart meter”.
With more than 11 million smart meters already installed across Great Britain, Gerald Jones MP is looking forward to seeing this new technology in more and more homes across Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney.
Installed for free by your energy supplier, a smart meter will show how much gas and electricity you are using in near real time, and what it is costing in pounds and pence. Information is displayed on an in-home display, which helps households to reduce energy waste and save money.
People with prepay meters can also benefit by getting a smart meter, making manging your home’s energy as easy as pay-as-you-go on your mobile. You can top up from the comfort of the sofa and there’s no need to return a key or card to the meter afterwards.
Every home in Great Britain will be offered a smart meter at no additional cost. To find out more, contact your energy supplier or visitwww.smartenergyGB.org/get-yours
