Labour MP Gerald Jones recently highlighted the excellent work being done by both Merthyr Tydfil & Caerphilly County Borough Councils in promoting the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Covenant is a voluntary pledge to encourage charities, local authorities, businesses, communities and individuals to work together with the military to offer support to service personnel and their families as well as reservists and veterans. Initiatives include free swim sessions, coffee mornings and flag raising events alongside many others.

During a debate at the all party parliamentary group (APPG) on the Armed Forces Covenant, the Labour MP praised the covenant and thanked Merthyr Tydfil & Caerphilly Councils for the outstanding manner that they help to promote the scheme to residents who are part of the armed forces family.

Following the debate Gerald Jones added;

“The Armed Forces covenant is a really positive way to acknowledge the appreciation of the wider community to members of the Armed Forces. Both Merthyr Tydfil & Caerphilly Councils have actively promoted the covenant locally and I know that this is greatly appreciated by members of the armed forces who are residents of the Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney constituency.”

Gerald was also pleased to be appointed to the Shadow Defence team in recent weeks with covering the veterans and service leavers portfolio.
