Putting Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney at the Heart of Parliament

Importance of Our Volunteers & Jobs Fair

August 2017

Not having to be in Westminster for the Summer Recess has meant that I have had the opportunity to visit a range of community projects across the constituency as well as meeting with key organisations delivering services to local people.

I was pleased to catch up with Tracey Burke of Canceraid Merthyr
who will be celebrating the 10th  Anniversary in their purpose built centre in a few weeks time.

My background of working in the voluntary sector has always given me an appreciation of just how valuable volunteers are. Many of the projects that I have visited just would not happen without the commitment and dedication of volunteers. Volunteers are a lifeline to projects such as our foodbanks, summer schemes, CancerAid, Helping Hands, our Charity shops, our Churches & PTA’s, our Community Centres and youth projects and our many sports clubs.

I know that VAMT & GAVO hold an annual event to recognise the work of volunteers and having spoken to volunteers in the past, I know that these events are appreciated. However, the work volunteers do to support many community projects and services is something we should all acknowledge every day we use or benefit from such a project or service.

Congratulations to The College Merthyr for 100% pass rate in this year's A Level results

Along side my Assembly colleague Dawn Bowden AM are organising a Job Fair at the Ael y Bryn Community Centre, Rhymney on Friday 8th September, starting at 10am.

The event will bring together employers, training providers and partner organisations to highlight the job opportunities that are available locally. If you would like to hear about opportunities with employers such as EE, General Dynamics & Trago Mills, please come along.

For more information on the Jobs Fair please ring my office on 01685 383739.

This event is the latest in a series of community events that Dawn & I have held to offer support, advice and information to our constituents and follows on from the Voluntary Sector Funding Day held at Merthyr Football Club in June.

I had a fantastic day at the South Wales Police Community Fun Day
in Cyfarthfa Park a few weeks ago
